Sound Horizon

"1. Yoiyami no Uta

Beginning the album with dramatic strings and of course the usual storytelling, Yoiyami no Uta is so weird for some reason and it could be the fact Miku Hatsune has something to do with the song (of course, she was also used in the last single as well).  Of course it’s also nice to hear some of the story spoken in German as well.  While it doesn’t have the epic factor that made “Meiou” off their last album, Yoiyami no Uta is pretty darn close.  That being said, it has the workings with a lot of rock influence and added strings as well.  Also it is the album’s longest track over 10 minutes and it’s a nice thing since there’s just so much to it.  There’s a lot of different vocalists for the song and since I don’t know who’s who just by vocals I’m not gonna try.  What’s this…”Ode To Joy”???….OK, that was a surprise…overall it’s a very segmented song and it’s pretty good for a song that opens the story.
2. Kakei no Majo
For tracks 2-8, all of them begin with a bell ringing and some storytelling of course.  Kakei no Majo when it begins through the arrangement is more of a folkish ballad since it rolls that way and there’s flutes!  That’s short since there’s a lady singing quite beautifull in front of harp, piano, and the sound of birds…and what I think are footsteps across the ground.  I’m still very impressed at her vocals and can keep up with the song speeds up and changes into more of a progressive track.  Good tune as well.
3. Kuroki Okami no Yado
I don’t think hearing a childrens choir at the beginning of Kuroki Joshou no Yado was really needed, but at least it was shortlived and we basically get into another folkish track.  I’m wondering if the vocalist here is Ceui or Mikuni Shimokawa or even Minami Kuribayashi, but I seriously couldn’t tell otherwise…but it sounds like either of the three anison singers.  It gets harder but only a short while before the song turns into iono…but a giddy kind of acoustic arrangement with this pretty terrible dude singer who doesn’t know tone period!  At least the female singer comes back for more singing and then ends with the tolling of the bell and this voice that kind of is heard throughout the album and then hard rock and more children’s choir….Absurd!
4. Garasu no Hitsuji de Nemuru Himegimi
Into the next song after such bizarreness from the previous, the filtered vocal dude comes in and another female singer comes in and it makes me wonder if this is Miku once again because it sounds a lot more chipmunkier than normal.  I did like the simplicity of the arrangement here since it’s harp and some other finger-played instrument.  After Miku, a deeper woman’s replaces her and takes a few bars and then weird tone-deaf man takes over for one bar and repeats.  At this part is when I think the song is more of a waltz.  After the second repeat…it gets very weird and much faster in the music…poor girl sound like she’s being raped >.>  But to jolly music?!?  It’s another song where there’s many different sequences and if you follow the story it’ll make more sense.  Though I’m quickly surprised that most songs so far has had a hard rock passage towards the end which makes it interesting…like the bell tolling in the beginning in most of the songs.
5. Nama to Shi wo Wakatsu Kyoukai no Furuido
Uhm, it’s surprising to find out this song when it begins sounds so Western sounding like something Stereopony would’ve done hahaha.  It’s a bit strange coming up to this point, but it’s great to hear more than one girl singing at a time and sound good together at that.  Near the 6 minute mark the arrangement changes to more of a mid-tempo tune, but it’s shortlived and goes back to the more pop/rockish tone.  Of course the ending is more of the speed rock, no surprise.  It’s good and it’s for the most part the most consistent in arrangement on the album.
6. Bara no Tou de Nemuru Himegimi
Oi….I don’t remember “Moira” being so long of an album, but it’s starting to wear me out once I get to about here on the album.  Flowing strings and another female singer joins for this song and it’s pretty nice and then the main arrangement starts and is once again set in the more folkish setting.  It sort of mirrors “Kakei no Majo” for some reason, but I liked the more moving melody here.  It does change into a deeper woman’s voice again and DAMN, she sounds amazing and with the song becoming quicker and heavier…it stands out so nicely.  Though…a slow jazzy center isn’t what I was expecting REVO to be pulling off, but it’s a nicely needed change, but it’s only for so long before another lady starts to sing and it gets more progressive and back into the pop/rock feel.  It’s good and the typical ending is still there so either way, this was one of the better songs from the album.  Probably my favorite.
7. Aoki Hakashaku no Shiro
Finally, another hard hitting song with Aoki Hakashaku no Shiro.  It’s just so evil and the guy with his evil laughing was just perfect…that is until it just stops, hits a brick wall and turns into this creepy and quiet atmosphere with one of the anison singers by herself.  After a bit of that, some of the rockin’ arrangement returns and she continues on.  Sounds like someone dies in the song XD…it’s just odd how they went through that.  Though after the girl leaves her space and I guess “dies”, the guy takes over for the song and sings with a more deep tone and I loved it haha.  After a little bit with filtered guy, a different song starts to play with different vocals and then ends with a battle it seems…Evil song and I actually liked this.
8. Haritsuke no Seijo
Of course the final song with the opening bell ring, Takukei no Seijo’s piano opening is pretty and sounds like something I would’ve heard in FFX or something, but it turns into this orchestral/choir mix with an upbeat feel.  It’s strange but what can you really do eh?  There’s a lot more conversations than in other songs as well, but it’s good to hear that after that we get into a moving ballad, that sounds perfect for an ending for something.
9. Gyoukou no Uta
Finally closing the album out, Gyoukou no Uta sounds like an after-ending almost Yoko Shimamura-like to be honest LOL.  Anyways the song has the filtered guy finally fully singing and I actually dislike the fact the filter was still there since it was more of a hinder more than anything.  He does slightly put it under once the song fills out more and more things go on.  I don’t understand the sudden ending, but it’s pretty cool nonetheless."
